Arguably the most anticipated film of 2022 is James Cameron's sci-fi sequel Avatar 2: The Way Of Water. And the long wait for the blockbuster is rewarded with a lot of film minutes - the film is actually longer than "Avatar".

Even "Avatar" has a proud running time: the visually stunning sci-fi epic lasts 2 hours and 41 minutes. With the late sequel "Avatar 2: The Way Of Water", director James Cameron not only steps up the technical finesse of the large-scale production, which should impress us with images never seen before in cinemas but also in the running time.

As industry publications like Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter report, "Avatar 2" will be 3 hours and 10 minutes long - at least! Deadline points out that the exact running time has not yet been determined, so the film could definitely go a little longer.

JAMES CAMERON DOESN'T WANT TO HEAR ANYONE WHINING
It was revealed a few months ago that Avatar 2 would be at least three hours long, prompting James Cameron in an interview with Empire to take a defensive stance: he didn't want "to hear anyone whining about the length". After all, people would currently sit down and watch series episodes for eight hours at a time.

In an interview, James Cameron already predicted the whining in the film reviews about the long running time. The solution is very simple: "Here's the big social paradigm shift that needs to happen: It's okay to get up and go pee," Cameron said. But the director probably just didn't think of an important difference between cinema and home cinema: At home, you can always press the pause button if you have to go to the toilet during your binge marathon. In the cinema, unless there is a scheduled break, you inevitably miss a piece of film.

Avatar 2: The Way Of Water hits theaters on December 14, 2022. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana return as Jake Sully and Neytiri - the couple has since started a family that includes biological and adopted children.

Sigourney Weaver is also back, but this time plays a different role than in part 1 - namely the adopted teenager Kiri. Another returnee is Stephen Lang as Miles Quaritch. Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Michelle Yeoh, and Oona Chaplin.
