Since the end of "Game Of Thrones", the US broadcaster HBO has been working feverishly to build on the success of the fantasy mega-hit. The fact that a planned spin-off was canceled despite the pilot episode having already been filmed shows that it is not easy for oneself. But the start of "House Of The Dragon" is indeed imminent - and the first voices from the premiere indicate that at least the first episode of "House Of The Dragon" can build on the strengths of the original series.

For example, Collider's Steve Weintraub writes that he didn't like the eighth season of "Game Of Thrones" at all, which many fans spurned, but that the premiere of "House Of The Dragon" was very well done. He also promises "lots of sex, blood, violence, and dragons".

His colleague Christina Radish, on the other hand, points out in her tweets that "House Of The Dragon" feels at once epic and tells a personal, intimate story about a family beset by love and troubles.

The Wrap's Brandon Katz commends the House Of The Dragon pilot for how well the cast does it in carving out the connection to Game Of Thrones, the main characters, and the central conflict. The episode is easy to understand, Katz said - which isn't exactly the case for the Game Of Thrones Season 1 pilot.

Film critic Cat Combs writes: "I didn't know how much I missed the 'Game Of Thrones theme until I heard it at the premiere of 'House Of The Dragon' tonight. The first episode is fantastic! I can't wait to see how it goes."

Even if there have not been many reactions on social media so far and only the first episode has been shown, it at least seems as if "House Of The Dragon" could build on the quality of the first seasons of "Game Of Thrones". Of course, it's still too early for anything else - after all, enough series has already shown that a good start doesn't make a good series.

You can make your own judgment from August 22, 2022, when the first episode "Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon" can be seen in Germany on Sky and WOW.
