'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness', with Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), opens on May 7, 2021 in the USA.
One of the most attractive and anticipated titles of Phase 4 of Marvel Studios that will begin in 2020 is undoubtedly the sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 7, 2021). The continuation of Doctor Strange (2016) will be starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Vincent Strange) and Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch), who will participate - as advanced in the Comic-With director Scott Derrickson - in the first horror film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In SensaCine we have told you what influences and tributes the title hides, but you may not know one of the craziest theories circulating on the Web about the project. Recently published by the user of Reddit loutermit, this suggests Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) will be at a time in this movie in the universe of the Spider-Man trilogy directed by Sam Raimi. Will we see the Peter Parker of Tobey Maguire again? Everything is based on a few words by J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) - which appears in one of Spider-Man's post-credits: Away from home - in a Spider-Man 2 scene (2004). In it, he and Hoffman (Ted Raimi) try to find a catchy name for Dr. Otto Octavius (Doc Ock). And Jameson ends up claiming that "Doctor Strange" is already taken.
The Elder (Tilda Swinton) already confirmed the existence of the multiverse in the first Doctor Strange, but the incorporation of Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) to this second part seems to indicate that we will delve much deeper into the multiple universes within UCM. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opens on May 2021 and it is most likely that its plot will be built with what happens in the Disney + WandaVision series with Wanda and Vision (Paul Bettany).
If the theory ends up being fulfilled ...
If this theory materializes, Marvel Studios would need permission from Sony Pictures, which would happen if both parties agreed. It does not seem entirely illogical if we take into account that Far from home, with Tom Holland as Peter Parker, is about to overcome the barrier of 1,000 million dollars of collection and is already, in its own right, the highest-grossing tape of Man-Spider.
Marvel Studios Phase 4 will debut with Black Widow (May 1, 2020) and continue with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Disney + .- Fall 2020), Eternals (November 6, 2020), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (February 12, 2021), WandaVision (Disney + .- Spring 2021), Loki (Disney + .- Spring 2021), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 7, 2021), the animated series What If ... (Disney + .- Summer 2021), Hawkeye (Disney + .- Fall 2021) and Thor: Love and Thunder (November 5, 2021). In addition, the study develops Fantastic Four, Blade, Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Captain Marvel 2.
