"Mazaka" directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina, shares the story of a father and son falling in love at the same time, leading to chaos in their lives. Prasanna Kumar, the writer of the film, has effectively showcased family relationships, hemispheres and emotions.
The father's desire to get married and the reasons behind this idea were well established early on. The clashes between the two women, their egos, add to the audience's interest in these scenes. These scenes are a bit intrusive, but the reverses in the story and the climax are rushed and mislead many expectations.
On the whole, the film, which starts off with a good set-up, falters in the latter half as the proceedings slow down a bit. Not only does the comedy in the film evoke laughs, but it also seems overstuffed at times. Emotions also feel coercive, which reduces their importance somewhat.
The film is mostly stuck in just getting the mould of the characters. It became difficult to deliver on the expectations of the story, and so the director captured the characters in some stereotypical ways. In fact, although the film's point of view is mostly in the sense of repetition, it becomes weaker if there isn't more gripping in the screenplay.
The reason why women hate each other is basically because it's quirky, but it doesn't feel confident about how that feeling pans out in the second half. The blend of comedy and emotions also seems to have escaped another phase, especially in the second half. Despite efforts to keep the chemistry between the central characters good, they don't emerge much on screen.
Finally, the songs in the film tend to slow down the flow of the narrative. When there are songs that are not important, the audience's interest is lost. As the story goes, one cannot have an entertaining experience without the right grip.
Collection: On the whole, "Mazaka" cheats in many places, even if it starts out entertaining. Even though the first half of the film gives good clues, the pauses and scattered humour in the second half makes it difficult for the audience to accept. Despite the chemistry between the father and son, the film failed to attract the audience to its full extent.
