We regularly report on how successful films are at the box office – and that the box-office mark of one billion dollars, which once seemed so unattainable, is increasingly becoming the target for expensively produced blockbusters. No wonder, after all, they are also becoming more and more expensive. Consequently, they also have to flush more money into the coffers in order to make a profit. But how expensive are Hollywood's mega productions actually?

Well, as a benchmark for XXL productions, a rough budget of 200 million dollars can currently be set. Roughly as much - figures may vary slightly depending on the source - was the cost of films like The Gray Man, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore and Lightyear, all of which will be released in 2022 have appeared. Others, like Thor: Love And Thunder or Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($250 million each) were even more expensive. However, no film from the current year has cost as much as the one that awaits us next year: "Fast X".

The tenth part of the “Fast & Furious” series is said to cost a whopping $ 340 million – as of now, according to The Wrap. However, it may just as well be that the costs will rise even further in the coming months. After all, there are still a few months until “Fast X” hits theaters on May 18, 2023. But why does the action film devour such sums?

"FAST & FURIOUS 10": THAT MAKES "FAST X" SO EXPENSIVE
The top 50 most expensive movies of all time include three chapters from the gas-and-testosterone-soaked action saga (“Fast 7” and “Fast 8” cost $250 million, and “Fast 9” came in at $200 million). But "Fast X" costs a good deal more than its predecessors, so in the end, it will leave "Avatar 2" ($250 million) far behind and could even have "Avengers: Endgame" ($356 million) or the all-time -Overtake leader "Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" ($379 million). But why is the film so costly? How did that happen?

One reason is the star ensemble: producer and leading actor Vin Diesel earns a lot of money with the "Fast & Furious" films, but that's not all. Over time, more and more big names joined the cast, whose salary should account for a considerable part of the production costs. Among other things, in addition to "almost" veterans such as Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Brie Larson, Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron, and Helen Mirren are also included in the upcoming chapter.

Issues and delays in production should not be underestimated either. Every day that a film cannot continue shooting costs the film studio a lot of money. And "Fast & Furious 10" certainly experienced such days: After director Justin Lin left, it became known that this would cost Universal Pictures a day (!) between 600,000 and one million dollars. It's to be hoped that Lin's successor, Louis Leterrier ("The Transporter", "Now You See Me") will dig deep enough into his bag of tricks that the film will at least be in the black at the end.

Corona also costs money. While one of us gets tested for Corona whenever he or she suspects he or she is ill, film productions can only work if everyone involved is tested day in and day out - and that's the case with a mammoth project like "Fast X". very, very many people. Doing this costs a lot of money.

Inflation does the rest. Each of us is feeling the current high inflation. Whether it's the electricity bill or the rolls from the baker: everything is getting more expensive - including, of course, the enormous resources required for film production.

If you include the advertising costs according to the old rule of thumb, "Fast X" must probably bring in at least 750 to 800 million dollars in order not to make a loss. The direct predecessor "F9" should be overtaken in a walk. Ultimately, he brought it to "only" 726 million dollars.
