Rumors of a romance between Diana Prince and Barbara Ann Minerva in Wonder Woman 1984 have been debunked by the film's own director, Patty Jenkins.
This is a romance that has existed in other stories of the character in the comics, but here the Amazon's only romantic interest will continue to be Steve Trevor, who is known to return from the dead in some way that we are still unaware of, although it is speculated that Maxwell Lord, the character of Pedro Pascal, could have something to do with it.

"Perhaps it has happened in other story arcs. But since here the story clearly goes back to Steve's return, everything revolves around Steve. It is all a love story with Steve. There was no room for two for Diana."

Barbara will develop a deep resentment towards Diana despite having been friends in the past, which will make her a dangerous enemy of Wonder Woman and the second villain of this sequel where the aforementioned Maxwell Lord will also do her own thing.
Wonder Woman 1984 will have to wait until August 14 to hit theaters after being one of the premieres affected by the coronavirus pandemic. After this sequel, we may see a Wonder Woman 3 if everything goes well since Jenkins has long had an idea to develop the next film. If so, it would become the best-performing saga in the entire DCEU after the first film was one of the highest-grossing films in this cinematic universe at the time.
