The next work from the director of 'Guardians of the Galaxy' will be 'The Suicide Squad', scheduled for August 2021.

After Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), Phase 4 of Marvel Studios will begin on October 30 of this year with the premiere of Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson's solo movie Black Widow). There is still no Avengers installment on the horizon in this new stage yet, and perhaps precisely for that reason, James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy, has recently been asked about it in a Q&A on Instagram. Gunn has acknowledged that he has not been offered to direct a film of the famous 'crossover' within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), although he has also indicated that he would reject it if it were.

Who or who will be in charge of the multibillion-dollar Avengers franchise after Joe and Anthony Russo closed a stage for the Marvel supergroup with Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame? Controversies aside, and as long as the Russo did not decide to repeat, James Gunn would be one of the candidates to be considered by Kevin Feige, who could also opt for a name outside the MCU or resort to others already known, old and new, such as those of Jon Favreau, Taika Waititi, Chloé Zhao, etc. But what is clear is that James Gunn, who premieres The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC Comics on August 6, 2021, doesn't seem interested. On a wagon ride, the filmmaker has answered the question of whether or not he would direct an Avengers feature film. "They have not asked me, but I would not if they did," he replied. Why? "It just doesn't appeal to me," he added later.

For now, Gunn will close the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will again feature Chris Pratt as Star-Lord and has no confirmed release date within MCU yet. Hit-Monkey, Red Hulk, or Thunderbolts are other possibilities for the future of St. Louis. At the moment, and as we have told you, Phase 4 of Marvel begins on October 30 with Black Widow and continues later with The Eternals (February 12, 2021), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (7 of May 2021 in the US), Spider-Man 3 (November 5, 2021), Thor: Love and Thunder (February 11, 2022), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (March 25, 2022). To these he adds the original series for Disney + The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2020), WandaVision (2020), Loki (2021), What If ...? (2021) and Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk, which could be released in 2022.

Waiting to know which director will take over from the Russo brothers, if that is the case, we leave you on these lines the official trailer for Black Widow, with Scarlett Johansson.
