The director of the last two Pennywise films says there is enough mythology to make more films.
On September 6, It: Chapter 2 will be released, probably the most anticipated horror movie of the year by genre lovers, and it is probably not the last time we saw Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise on the big screen.
Gary Dauberman, screenwriter for It: Chapter 2, has commented that he is against making more films about Pennywise outside of It, since he wants to be respectful of Stephen King's original novel, but has also said that Andrés Muschietti, director of the Two films of It, are interested in exploring those ideas:
There is whole mythology in the book. Mythology is something that always has opportunities to explore. It has been on Earth for millions of years. He has been in contact with humans for hundreds of years, every 27 years. So you can imagine the amount of material.
As Dauberman tells it, there could indeed be many stories to tell Pennywise, although this probably depends on the collection and criticism of It: Chapter 2. It is also likely that Stephen King is not pleased that more are made movies with his character, although seeing that the first movie of It liked it and that there is a new scene in the second installment of It that he asked to be added, the master of terror may like the idea of expanding his character.
On these possible spin-offs of the character, Muschietti declared the following:
It is always exciting to think about exploring this mythology. It's very exciting. But, for now, there is no on the table.
